About The Event

Come join me on a walk around one of London’s great green spaces and discover the huge variety of wild flavours in the capital.

What to expect:

The course will start off with an introduction to the safety, legality and sustainability of picking wild food. We’ll then go for a walk around whichever green space we are in, talking about plant families and their identification features (an extremely useful tool for the beginner forager), poisonous species, seasonality, harvesting, pickling, processing, fermentation, cooking, and flavour.

I’ll bring snacks and drinks I’ve made so you can taste the full potential of the wild foods we come across. Expect things like chocolate jelly ear mushrooms, stinging nettle ravioli, fermented three-cornered leek and crème fraiche, pineapple weed liqueur, and more.

After the walk you should be comfortable with the basics and have the confidence to go out picking on your own. I’ll recommend the best books and resources to get you started. I’ll also send a follow up e-mail after the walk with identification information and recipes for the wild food we’ve found.

I’ll send round an e-mail the week prior to the course with an exact meet location. The course begins at 10am.

What to bring:

We’ll be outdoors, so bring suitable clothing come rain or shine, sturdy footwear, a drink of water, and a notepad and pen to take notes if you wish.

Kids policy:

Children are very welcome on the courses. Kids under 10 go free, and for kids aged 10-14 it’s £10. Well behaved dogs also welcome.
